Goroka Bilum Festival receives Shopping Vouchers from CPL

THE Goroka Bilum Festival has received shopping vouchers from City Pharmacy Limited to present to the winners of the festival.

Director of the festival Florence Jaukae Kamel said after ten years of running the tourist attraction event in the Eastern Highlands, they’ve decided to step out and seek sponsorship from corporate houses to support the eleventh edition of the festival.

CPL manager in Goroka Maria Teresa while presenting the vouchers said supporting the festival is one way of giving back to the community by encouraging women to pursue on with the passion of weaving bilums.

Teresa understands the weaving bilums also helps put bread and butter for families in Papua New Guinea therefore the support is also considered as promoting self-employment in the communities.

Ms Jaukae said they are pleased that the Goroka Bilum Festival is gaining popularity every year from both national and international audiences which has triggered corporate houses and politicians to jump on board to support the annual event which complements the annual Goroka Show as well.
The winner of the festival will be receiving a K500 voucher, runner up will receive a K250 voucher and K100 voucher for the third prize.

Apart from the vouchers, CPL will also support the weaver participation fee of K300 and also the Bilum Gala Nite Table for K2, 500.

The festival commences on Thursday night September 12th at the Pacific Gardens hotel in Goroka and will conclude on Sunday September 15th.
