PNG's Landmark - Kalibobo Lighthouse

By Albertis_Photography

Kalibobo Lighthouse in Madang Province is one of the World’s most renowned landmarks.

Kalibobo Lighthouse was unveiled in 1959 to commemorate the efforts of the coast watchers that had lost their lives during WWII while keeping watch along the coast of Madang.

With it being one of the province's landmark monuments, it is a traditional symbol of Madang  that appears on the provincial flag as well as on the government official documents.

The NMSA still maintains the lighthouse as an aid for navigation for sea vessels and boats travelling along the coastlines of Madang.

It is one of the many landmarks such as the Pyramids of Egypt, the Eiffel Tower in Paris (France), the Statue of Liberty in New York (United States of America), Great Wall of China, the Sydney Opera House, etc...

Madang Town is said to be one of the prettiest towns in the South Pacific.

It is a pleasant and laid back town and likely the best place to begin your visit.
