More Papua New Guineans are now joining the team of pilots with the National Airline, Air Niugini compared to only a few local pilots some 30 years back.
General Manager Flight Ops with the Flight Operations Department of Air Niugini Captain Christopher Mileng, who served Air Niugini for 30 years, says when he first started as a cadet, there were only a handful of local pilots.
But Captain Mileng says, a lot has changed as Air Niugini transformed from what it was in previous years compared to what it is now especially with the different aircrafts that they operate today.
He says, now being in a senior position, he is confident there are still more young Papua New Guinean pilots coming through.
Mileng adds, it is really good to see more locals going into the field, not only men but women as well.
