Miss Bird of Paradise Papua New Guinea Prepares for Pacific Stage

Port Moresby, PNG – Iampela Popena, who holds the title of Miss Bird of Paradise Papua New Guinea, is preparing to showcase the nation’s culture, resilience, and values at the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant. Her preparations have involved a mix of community service and professional training that she says has strengthened her confidence to represent PNG.

“I am excited to showcase the courage and resilience of Papua New Guinean women to the Pacific and the world,” Popena said, reflecting on the experiences that have shaped her journey.


The pageant’s theme, “One Pacific, One Voice: Standing Together for Online Safety,” is particularly meaningful to Popena, who hopes to inspire others to demonstrate kindness and respect in both online and offline spaces. Her efforts underline the importance of sharing PNG’s rich culture and traditions with a wider audience.


Popena encourages all Papua New Guineans to rally behind her. “I invite all Papua New Guineans to join me on this journey, to celebrate our diversity, and stand with me as we share our stories and heritage on the regional stage,” she said.
