PNG Buka Airport closed for Safety reasons

People travelling to and out of Buka are forced to take another flight route as Buka Airport is closed until further notice.

A notice was pinned up this morning at the airport informing the public the airport will be closed due to safety reasons.


Local radio news, New Dawn reported security referred to airport fencing and people using the runway as a road; crossing it even with cars every day.

This was told to them by an Air Niugini staff at the airport.

The notice said all flights will be operating via Kieta as of today.

National Airports Corporation is yet to release a statement on the matter.
