Plans are in place for a bid to have a World Boxing Council (WBC) title fight staged in Papua New Guinea.
World renowned fight sport referee and WBC representative Brad Vocale says he will be discussing with the boxing council to see how the country can play host to an international title fight by the end of the year.
Vocale has been at the fore-front in helping in the effort to revive professional boxing in the country; a sporting code which has gone quiet since the 90s.
Since 2016, two fight promotion companies have been set up in the country and have held several fight events.
These featured both local and international fighters.
The two promotion companies currently include Oceania Fight Promotions and PNG Professional Boxing Gym.
Vocale says while it is positive that professional boxing is picking up again, having a world title fight in the country can help in boosting the revival of the sport.
